LOTE (Italian)
Italian is taught across all year levels from Foundation to Year Six. Students enjoy learning the Italian language and engaging with Italian culture. During Italian lessons, students use a variety of resources to participate in language and conversation activities.
Music
At Holy Eucharist, all classes have fortnightly Music lessons during which students are encouraged to develop their knowledge and appreciation of the fundamental elements of music.
In Music sessions, students have the opportunity to use learnt skills, their imagination and creativity to explore pitch, rhythm, form, dynamics and tempo using voice, movement and a wide range of classroom instruments. Instruments used include xylophones, drums, boomwhackers and ukuleles. Students frequently participate in singing and dancing activities while exploring music from different eras and cultures.
Physical Education
At Holy Eucharist Primary School, students in the Junior years learn Fundamental Motor Skills (FMS) in their PE lesson each week. FMS such as throwing, catching, skipping, jumping, hopping, etc., are being taught in accordance with the Achievement Standards in the Health and Physical Education Victorian Curriculum. Students in Grade 3-6 learn to refine their fundamental motor skills in various sports – invasion sports (e.g., football, soccer, hockey, basketball, frisbee) net-wall sports (e.g., tennis, badminton, volleyball) aquatic sports and target sports (e.g., bowling, golf).
Our swimming program provides students with opportunities to learn how to swim safely and to enhance their swimming abilities. Our school endeavours to hold our Grades 3-6 Athletics program in Semester 1. This is to prepare students to participate for their subsequent district and/or divisional Athletics days. In Term 4, a Junior Athletics Day for Grade Prep-Two is held to provide opportunities for students to participate in fun and enjoyable age-appropriate physical activities.
Visual Arts
The Visual Arts curriculum at Holy Eucharist school supports and provides art education. Students are introduced to various tools and mediums through drawing, painting, sculpture, textiles, ceramics, printing and other technologies, giving them experiences such as experimenting, exploring techniques, strategies, processes and skills essential in these areas. Some artworks are selected and submitted for the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Visual Art Exhibition competition held in March.
STEM
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) is an important way to prepare students for the future by exercising critical thinking, problem-solving and innovation skills. In STEM, students are encouraged to take part in the design process by asking questions, using their imagination, creating and evaluating solutions.
Students have access to digital devices such as chromebooks to assist them when planning and researching for various STEM activities. Students build their programming skills by engaging with hand-on materials, such as BeeBots, Edison Robots and Makey Makey boards. There is also a strong focus on eSafety and ensuring that students understand how to use technology responsibly.
